Line of Succession to the British Throne

On April 25, 2013, Royal Assent was given to the Succession to The Crown Act 2013.  After finally receiving approval in the various realms, the Act formally went into effect on March 26, 2015. The Act puts in place absolute primogeniture, which means the eldest child born becomes the heir to his or her parent, regardless of gender. This is retroactive to those born after October 28, 2011.

Another change affects those in the Line of Succession who married a Roman Catholic. Before the Succession to The Crown Act 2013 went into effect, those in the Line of Succession to the British throne who married a Roman Catholic lost their rights to succession. However, under the terms of the Act, this is no longer the case. Marriage to a Roman Catholic no longer excludes anyone. As this change is retroactive, those who were removed due to their marriages to a Roman Catholic were reinstated. Of the extended British Royal Family, George Windsor, Earl of St. Andrews and HRH Prince Michael of Kent were returned to the line of succession. However, the provision of the Act of Settlement 1701 prohibiting the monarch from being a Roman Catholic continues. Therefore, all Roman Catholics and those who convert to Roman Catholicism lose their succession rights.

There are some other changes that do not directly deal with the line of succession. You can read more about them here: Wikipedia: Succession to the Crown Act 2013.
