The Spanish Line of Succession is limited to the "successors" of King Juan Carlos I, as outlined in the Spanish Constitution.  Currently, Spain uses male-preference primogeniture, meaning that a son comes before a daughter, regardless of age.  It has been proposed that the laws be changed to allow for equal-primogeniture in the future, although no changes to the Constitution have been made.  The King's two sisters renounced their place in succession upon their marriages, but in both cases, it was prior to the  adoption of the Spanish Constitution and neither were ratified by the Cortes.  Therefore, there is some question as to the validity of their renunciations, and whether they remain, in-fact, in the line of succession.

The current line of succession is:

1.   HRH The Infante Felipe, Prince of Asturias (1968) - son of King Juan Carlos
2.   HRH The Infanta Leonor (2005) - elder daughter of The Prince of Asturias
3.   HRH The Infanta Sofía (2007) - younger daughter of The Prince of Asturias
4.   HRH The Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo (1963) - eldest daughter of King Juan Carlos
5.   HE Felipe Juan Froilán de Marichalar y de Borbón (1998) - son of Infanta Elena
6.   HE Victoria Federica de Marichalar y de Borbón (2000) - daughter of Infanta Elena
7.   HRH The Infanta Cristina, Duchess of Palma de Mallorca (1965) - younger daughter of King Juan Carlos
8.   HE Juan Urdangarín y de Borbón (1999) - eldest son of Infanta Cristina
9.   HE Pablo Urdangarín y de Borbón (2000) - second son of Infanta Cristina
10. HE Miguel Urdangarín y de Borbón (2002) - third son of Infanta Cristina
11. HE Irene Urdangarín y de Borbón (2005) - daughter of Infanta Cristina
