I'm interested to know if anyone else has heard of the "nine worthies" when it comes to the reign of William III & Mary?  It was a term bestowed upon their privy counsel.

Caermarthen, Devonshire, Dorset, Lowther, Marlborough, Monmouth, Nottingham, Pembroke & Russell were the members at the time.

(posting this here as his wife and co-monarch was Mary Stuart)

Posts about King William III belong here. Both King William III and Queen Mary II are from the House of Stuart.  Mary is the elder of the two surviving daughters of King James II, who was the son of King Charles I.  William is the only child of William II, Prince of Orange and Mary, Princess Royal, who was the daughter of King Charles I. Therefore, William and Mary were not only husband and wife, but also first cousins.  See Unofficial Royalty: House of Stuart for more information.

The last sentence of this Wikipedia article has a reference to the "Nine Worthies" referred to in the above post: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Worthies

Thank you Susan, I forgot they were cousins.  I just knew his lineage on his father's side was Nassau/Orange.

You're welcome.  William was actually third in the line of succession to the British throne after Mary and her sister Anne (the future Queen Anne).  That's why Parliament offered William and Mary the throne jointly.
