Congratulations to HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on the occasion of their 70th Wedding Anniversary!

Quite a milestone indeed!

One which is unlikely ever to happen again.

I believe that they've passed Victoria and become the longest-married Queen and consort.  Who did hold the record?

Victoria and Albert were only married 21 years when he died.  The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh passed that 49 years ago!

Off the top of my head, I want to say that King George III and Queen Charlotte held the record previously, at about 56 years, but I could be mistaken.

You are correct, Scott.  George III and Charlotte were married for 57 years at the time of Charlotte's death in 1818.  George III lived for two more years but was severely incapacitated for the last ten years of his life.

Charlotte of Mecklenberg (George's consort) is the second-longest serving consort (the Duke of Edinburgh passed her).  Wiki records the time as 57 years and 70 days.

Imagine all the history!

Not bad for a time period where there was all sorts of stuff to shorten a lifespan.
