The baby's relations will stretch from a simple Parisian actress via the Dracula princes in Romania, to even an Islamic sultan from Seville in Spain, who descended from the Muslim Prophet Mohammed, experts say. The family tree of the baby's father Prince William, who is second in line to the throne, is strongly tied to the European Gotha line. There one finds, alongside all Britain's kings, the sovereigns of Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Austria, Spain and a good number of German sovereigns.

OK, I know there is a direct descent from Victoria on William's side (through both paternal grandparents).  And there are all the cousins scattered through the European monarchies.

But Dracula?  An Islamic sultan descended from Mohammed?

"Good people, I am come hither to die, and by a law I am condemned to the same. The fact, indeed, against the Queen's Highness was unlawful, and the consenting thereunto by me: but touching the procurement and desire thereof by me or on my behalf, I do wash my hands thereof in innocency, before God, and the face of you, good Christian people, this day." Vlad the Impaler (the model for Dracula) is from Queen Mary if I am remembering correctly and the sultan may be also.  There used to be a website showing unusual descents of the BRF.  OK, this wasn't the site, I think it was from the Canadian Monarchist League, but this looks just like the site I was thinking of.  I first saw the site years ago.

Descent from some families, I can understand.

Greece/Denmark through Prince Philip.  German via HM.

I was rather surprised about the others!

The descents from people many centuries ago shouldn't really be a surprise. The further back you go, the greater the chances that many, if not most, of us are descended from these people. The problem is that most of us cannot prove it!

The current British Royals are also descended of Princess Juana the Mad of Spain.  (daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain who united Spain in the 15th century).

The Islamic Sultan might be from these Aragonese/Castillian forefathers ?

Prince Phillip's grandmother was a Russian Romanov Grand Duchess (Queen Olga of Greece, born Grand Duchess Olga Constantinova Romanov)

Prince Phillip's great grandfather, Grand Duke Louis of Hesse-Darmstadt had a Hohenzollern (Prussian Princess) for a mother.  That's the closest Hohenzollern blood in the current reigning British Royals.

King George I of Great Britain's grandfather was a Wittelsbach.

This is a fun website to look at which proved Paul's point.

Now here's an interesting little tidbit from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P…..m#Ancestry

On 14 June 2013, scientists announced that the future king of England has Indian blood in him and is a direct descendant of part-Indian Eliza Kewark, who was a house keeper for his great-great-great-great-great grandfather Theodore Forbes, a Scottish merchant who worked for the East India Company in Surat. Scientists launched a hunt for possible distant cousins of both Diana, Princess of Wales and her son Prince William after it emerged they all shared Indian ancestry. Dr Jim Wilson, a geneticist at the University of Edinburgh said, "Eliza Kewark — Prince William's great, great, great, great, great grandmother — gave birth to two children. Katherine Scott Forbes, born in 1812, was Prince William's great-great-great-great grand mother. The second child, Alexander, was born two years later. Alexander went back to India and did not die early. He may have descendants there today." Katherine later married James Crombie, a member of the coat-making family.

And some common descent with Kate, as researched by someone here….http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C…..e#Ancestry

In a study of Catherine's ancestry, William Addams Reitwiesner uncovered the ancestors she likely shares with her husband Prince William; the closest relationship is via Prince William's mother and Catherine's father through a common descent from Sir Thomas Fairfax and his wife Agnes (or Anne) Gascoigne, daughter of Sir William Gascoigne and his wife, née Lady Margaret Percy. If true, the couple would be fifteenth cousins.Sir Thomas Fairfax and Agnes Gascoigne are related via Catherine's great-grandmother Olive Lupton, daughter of a Leeds cloth merchant Francis Lupton and his wife Harriet (née Davis) – Fairfax likely being an ancestor of Lupton. In turn, Lady Margaret Percy is descended from Edward III.The uncertainty of the link stems from the lack of a definitive proof that William Fairfax was the Duchess of Cambridge's ancestor and in fact the William Fairfax who was the son of Thomas Fairfax, but there is strong circumstantial evidence based on the coat of arms used by William Fairfax that this is the case – Catherine's ancestor used Thomas' coat-of-arms differenced by a martlet, the heraldic technique of signifying that he was the fourth son

"Good people, I am come hither to die, and by a law I am condemned to the same. The fact, indeed, against the Queen's Highness was unlawful, and the consenting thereunto by me: but touching the procurement and desire thereof by me or on my behalf, I do wash my hands thereof in innocency, before God, and the face of you, good Christian people, this day."
