Line of Succession to the Danish Throne

The Danish Order of Succession is limited to the descendants of King Christian X and his wife, Queen Alexandrine, as per the Danish Act of Succession of 1953.  As of June 2009, succession is now based on equal-primogeniture, meaning the eldest child is heir, regardless of sex.

For more information see:

The current order of succession is:

1. HRH The Crown Prince Frederik (1968) - elder son of HM Queen Margrethe II
2. HRH Prince Christian of Denmark (2005) - eldest son of Crown Prince Frederik
3. HRH Princess Isabella of Denmark (2007) - eldest daughter of Crown Prince Frederik
4. HRH Prince Vincent of Denmark (2011) - youngest son of Crown Prince Frederik
5. HRH Princess Josephine of Denmark (2011) - youngest daughter of Crown Prince Frederik
6. HRH Prince Joachim of Denmark (1969) - younger son of HM Queen Margrethe II
7. HH Prince Nikolai of Denmark (1999) - eldest son of Prince Joachim
8. HH Prince Felix of Denmark (2002) - second son of Prince Joachim
9. HH Prince Henrik of Denmark (2009) - youngest son of Prince Joachim
10. HH Princess (unnamed) of Denmark (2012) - daughter of Prince Joachim
11. HRH Princess Benedikte of Denmark, The Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (1944) - sister of Queen Margrethe II
12. HH Princess Elisabeth of Denmark (1935) - granddaughter of King Christian X and first cousin of Queen Margrethe II

Princess Benedikte's children are excluded from the line of succession, as they did not meet the special condition established by King Frederik IX that they be raised in Denmark.

Queen Margrethe's youngest sister, Anne-Marie, was removed from the line of succession upon her marriage to King Constantine II of the Hellenes in 1964.

Princess Elisabeth's two brothers, Ingolf and Christian, both lost their titles as Prince of Denmark, and place in the line of succession, due to marrying without consent of the Sovereign.
